Hamish Moore pipes

Established in 1986, the family firm of David and Hamish Moore has built a world-wide reputation for excellence through the use of top quality materials, first class workmanship, attention to detail at all stages of manufacture, and good after-sales service. This is reflected by the ever increasing number of top solo pipers now playing Hamish Moore pipes. As a piper himself, Hamish has always striven to produce pipes which have a round full tone, are well balanced between the chanter and drones, are harmonically rich and of an appropriate volume. Beautiful as the pipes are, it is the uniquely rich sound which most impresses all who hear Hamish’s pipes.

Materials
A choice of woods and mounts is available - boxwood, blackwood, cocobolo, ebony, etc. The hide bags are hand stitched and made from top quality leather. The bellows are made from cherry or elm, lined with goat skin, hand stitched and with the stitching groove inlaid in boxwood. The chanter and drone reeds are made from top quality European cane.

Hamish is very happy to discuss with you all aspects of the pipes, and from his experiences as a player, teacher and pipe-maker, is well qualified to help you with your choices. Scottish small pipes, reel pipes and border pipes have the same fingering as Highland pipes, and are easy to maintain. For more information and a very personal service, please contact Hamish using the details at the foot of these pages.

Here is a selection of photographs of the various pipes available.

Orders can be placed by letter, email, phone or in person (our fax number is no longer available). A deposit of £150 is required at the time of ordering and this can be paid in cash, by cheque, by sterling draft or by Visa. It is advised that Visa numbers be dictated over the phone rather than emailed. There is a surcharge of £25 on final payment of pipes if paying by Visa or Mastercard. UK Customs and Excise - pipes being returned from overseas for re-reeding, repair, retuning or refurbishment: it should be stated boldly and clearly on the outside of the package that the pipes will be returned to their owner as soon as the work has been carried out. This is very important to avoid the charging of import duties, and weeks of delay at UK Customs and Excise. See other notes for owners and prospective buyers.
